Arrived the day after I ordered it. Awesome machine. I had a DVD and BBC iPlayer running an HD programme simultaneously with Firefox running with ten open tabs while working on a 30,000 word Open Office document and editing a photograph with Elements and it didn't pause for breath. It's a beautiful looking machine also. I was quite surprised that Windows Media Player is the default program for playing DVDs as it didn't have the required codecs to do this on my last laptop although that was a Vista machine. Sound is impressive, clear and quite loud for a laptop, with plenty of base while playing BBC iPlayer in HD is amazing, with no buffering nor drop out. I hate scroll pads and always use a mouse with laptops but this one is a joy to use. It is in fact a Touch Pad and you can scroll by just drawing two fingers down the pad, (or across to scroll horizontally). Product Review: Elegant and Fun!
The keyboard of this Sony Vaio has large, easy to find and use characters and icons. In use it has a crisp, positive feel. This laptop is very light and so easy to handle that I can walk around with it balanced on one arm and actually use it, which is great for me as I'm one of those people who think better when they're prowling!

The 'touch screen' is very responsive, but it does take some getting used to - careful handling and patience is the key! Also, I would advise anyone with a touch screen to keep a supply of screen wipes handy!!!

I'm having a great time discovering just what this small, but power-packed piece of tech is capable of (and so far it's amazing!).

It is also very sleek and elegant looking - totally, totally me.....

Product Review: Love Hate relationship (1st impressions) But better now
These are my first impressions and I will update this review as I use the laptop more.
I like this but at times I want to throw it on the floor and stamp on it. To be fair that is not all HP's fault but the interface between this laptop and Windows 8.
EDIT: I have cured my Windows problem by disabling edge swipe and now I like Windows 8 mainly for its lightning fast boot up speed.
Things I like;
* It is a small 14" and lightweight machine I like this size as it is more portable than the normal 15" and yet the screen size is usable and better than a netbook.
* The keyboard is excellent.
* It is very quiet with very little HDD or fan noise, this may be due to the SSD component and although it seems from the spec there is a SSD (32Gb) drive it is in fact a cache for the HDD which is a quite slow 5400 speed drive compensated for this by the cache, I can't see this from file explorer.
* The touch screen allows you to take advantage of the Windows 8 touch...

Product Review: Not bad, not great, but great for what I paid
Let me start with the cons:

CONS
- Fan often goes on, so it's noisy. This can happen while doing mundane stuff, like web surfing
- Colors are washed out. The only good thing about the LCD is that it extends all the way back, nearly 180 degrees
- Shallow key travel makes for a subpar typing experience. It really is quite shallow to other notebook keyboards I've used. Almost comparable to the Surface keyboard cover.
- Poor keyboard layout, e.g. function keys aren't activated by a fn + x combo, but more useful keys are; the lift shift key is cut in half; 1/3 of the Enter key is cut off; the tilde is placed oddly, etc.
- The trackpad is super-clicky, but otherwise ok
- Battery life is nowhere near 6hrs. I'm getting about 3 while not doing anything too heavy and screen brightness at around 75% (bluetooth off, wifi on). One might be able to get 4hrs, but I guess you'd have to be doing something as basic as word processing.

Product Review: Very good value for money
Dont be scared by any poor reviews. I looked at many of the ultrabooks available such as Apple's Mac Book Air, the more expensive Asus Zenbooks, Samsung series 9 etc etc. and settled for this one as it seems to offer the best value for money.

Boot up time is well below 10 seconds. Resume from sleep has been instant for me, by the time I open the lid, it is ready to go waiting for me to log in.

The ultrabook has a good quality feel and finish to it. Personally I like the brushed black aluminium finish, some may not.

I read bad things about the keyboard... but for me, as a touch typist I have got on well with it. If anything I find the keyboard nice and quiet, I cant stand those people on the train tap tap tapping away. All I hear is the faintest of taps when typing away.

The Magic flip access to the ports is kind of cool. I do struggle to see why the ports could not be made available without this as the ports must be taking up room whether...

After spending months researching and looking at alternatives, including reading about the forthcoming Haswell CPUs, I bought the Acer Aspire M5-581tg with the 128gb SDD on 29/4/13. I am very pleased with my purchase and I wish I had bought it months ago. Sound, screen, tracking pad and keyboard are all good.

After I loaded a few regular programmes (Office, Skype etc) I found that there is 63gb of the original 128gb memory free.

Whilst Haswell, WiDi, 256gb SDD and a 9 hour battery life were on my ideal wish list, I did not want to wait longer & pay more so the M5 is a great compromise for my needs.

Pros: Thin and light for its 15.6" size, start up in 2-20 seconds, good battery life (looks like 4-5 hours in real world times), stunning speed.

Cons: Windows 8 but the third party app Start8 seamlessly by passes Win8.

Overall a very good package for my needs, which are mainly MS Office, Email, Internet, YouTube & BBC iPlayer.

This laptop is a perfect balance between performance and price. (Though the 3317U version doesn't say touchscreen, it has one)

The CPU and Graphics chip will last you for a good few years and still run games etc, it can run alot of current games in high deatil, but i suspect not future games at High detail (but you should'nt really expect to for this price)

The combination of touchscreen and windows 8 is fantastic, really user frendliy and intutive (though i recommend you watch a few online tutorials on win 8, I found it confusing until I watch them)

The SDD cache and 500gb hdd is again fantasic, I've reinstalled windows 8 on the SSD cache and windows loads in 7 secs.

Baterry life again, (8hrs, can't really ask for more)

Only negative is that it's a bit heavy at 3kg+, and can only take 6gb of ram (However there is a additional 1gb of vram for the graphics card, which most laptop take from the main memory so really it's 7gb of ram)

The combination of touchscreen and windows 8 is fantastic, really user frendliy and intutive (though i recommend you watch a few online tutorials on win 8, I found it confusing until I watch them)

The SDD cache and 500gb hdd is again fantasic, I've reinstalled windows 8 on the SSD cache and windows loads in 7 secs.

Baterry life again, (8hrs, can't really ask for more)

Only negative is that it's a bit heavy at 3kg+, and can only take 6gb of ram (However there is a additional 1gb of vram for the graphics card, which most laptop take from the main memory so really it's 7gb of ram)

Product Review: Best Bang for Buck Laptop
I have been searching for a replacement laptop for some time, I use mine for Photoshop and some gaming. I had an older ASUS laptop so I knew the brand and had an idea of what to expect.
This laptop however is much much better than my previous one, although it's not the main reason the value for money is very good, believe me I've spent ages comparing laptops!

Big Clear screen
Really quiet (even when put under load)
Lots of useful ports (HDMI, USB 3.0)

CONS
I think it wont be long till I upgrade to 8 Meg of RAM
You need 5 DVD's for the Restore backup (Takes a while as do the other updates, but worth it!)

Product Review: Best laptop I've ever own or used
I upgraded to this from a ThinkPad Edge which had been struggling to keep up with my demands, and I honestly think it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I'm a big ThinkPad fan and really wanted an Utrabook, but the X1 Carbon simply didn't seem to be delivering, especially for the prices they're asking.

The NP900X3C on the other hand is near perfect.

The screen is easily the best I've ever seen on a laptop. Great viewing angles, no glare, fantastic deep blacks and bright whites. I think 1600x900 is perfect for this size screen. It's high enough for me to code in Eclipse without difficulty, something which I really can't do on a lower resolution screen.

The keyboard is good, it's not fantastic, but I have absolutely no issue typing for long periods of time; coding isn't an issue either. There's a little bit of response in the keys, just enough to make it comfortable, however it's not the best typing experience on a laptop ever. One issue I do...

Product Review: The device Windows 8 was made for... at a price
I've had the envy now for a week and I would say that it's probably the best windows 8 convertible so far. All of the other atom-based convertibles seem to have their own particular issues, and the core-based models are just too big, heavy and noisy.

The dual core atom and built-in SSD keeps everything running smoothly while generating very little heat in normal use. The screen is not quite up there with the best apple has to offer, but it's bright enough and pleasant to use. The keyboard is also very good as is the touchpad, although I do miss not having backlighting. Battery life is excellent, realistically lasting a whole day with capacity to spare. Build quality is also excellent, and up there with the best I've seen. The tablet itself is very light, and I haven't noticed any appreciable difference in real-word use when holding it for extended periods between the Envy and my iPad 3.

The whole system has been very stable in use so far, with no system crashes...

Product Review: Good all-rounder, but needs improvement
I received the RF511 this morning and I have to say that Amazon's service has been brilliant in that they dispatched this via next day after my initial RF511 order went walkies in the West Midlands, courtesy of CityLink.

First impressions on this laptop are mixed. To start with the good: the i5/8GB/1TB spec is reasonably fast, it's handled everything I've thrown at it without a hiccup thus far. This includes 1080p HD, processing RAW files in LightRoom and, even though I didn't buy this laptop for gaming, The Sims 3 - which the HD3000 integrated graphics did a decent job with on high settings.

On that note however, the fan does like to spin-up a bit in LightRoom and when I took The Sims 3 for a spin, things got hot, 80*C hot. Otherwise, the RF511 stays quiet and cool. I've generally noticed it hovering around 30-40*C in SpeedFan on general internet/music/Microsoft Word use.

What I will say is that Samsung's "superior LCD screen" is anything but. It has...

Product Review: First Mac... but will not be my last!!
I am not going to go into any technical details as there are a whole host of reviews that can be uncovered by a simple google search, instead I want to concentrate more on the "feel" of the Air

First impressions are... wow. I had tested one in the Apple store several times, but it is hard to appreciate its size and portability until you own one. I seem to find myself randomly picking it u just to spin it round and marvel at it's size and weight. If any thing it is a little too portable, I took it out for the first time on Thursday, and couldn't even tell it was in my bag. So much so that my paranoia of protecting my shiny new toy kicked in and I found myself opening my bag every five minutes to check I had not been pick pocketed. Hopefully this paranoia will wear off after a few weeks.

Aa a previous Windows fan and Windows 7 user I was a little sceptical about swithching to a mac and not too sure how hard it would be to adapt to using a new operating system...

Product Review: The best notebook I've ever owned
This is simply the best notebook I've ever owned.
It runs every game I can throw at it, at ultra settings too.
The design and attention to detail is second to none.
It doesn't even get warm after an hour of gaming.
The full HD screen is flawless with great viewing angles and contrast ratio.

To the previous reviewer comparing this notebook with the Alienware you are comparing apples to oranges. The Alienware is incredibly expensive especially once you upgrade to the 580M, plus it's much larger and heavier than a G74. Also the 580M in the Alienware is only 128-bit 2GB GDDR5 which is severely limited when compared to the full 192-bit 3GB GDDR5 in the G74.

Product Review: Fantastic.
This a fantastic addition to the new group of tablet ultrabook convertibles, it is extremely light compared to ultrabooks however could be considered heavy for a tablet. The product is fast with boot times from shutdown under 4 seconds and wake from standby like that of any other tablet on the market. In the box you get the tablet/ultrabook a charging cable and a digital pen. the digital pen is enormously accurate which is great considering on the high res screen your fingers will miss on most webpages with smaller links. The pen however feels like something that could easily get lost and considering a like for like replenishment will set you back
